On Saturday the 10th of October it was a beautiful sunny day and so we decided to go to the Caulfield Spring Racing Carnival with James and Dave (another couple of expats). Unfortunately, we were not completely dressed for it but had a great day anyway....
We had a look around the course and a look at the horses before the races began.... And of course had a few tinnies at the bar - a compulsory part of our day out!
We decided to pool our bets and so minimise winnings and losses.... And so the boys carefully studied the form of each race before carefully deciding which horse to bet on.... They then carefully studied which of the bookies was giving them the best odds for the chosen horses.....
James succesfully bet on a horse as a win that actually won a race!!!! This resulted in a great deal of celebrating - and more beers!!!! The rest of us managed to successfully bet on a few places in the 9 races..... We did not calculate how much we won/lost but I think we just about broke even...
We even watched a few of the races during all of this! The atmosphere was great - much more relaxed than when we went to Flemington for the Melbourne Cup last Nov - and Caulfield is a lovely race course - and not too far from where we live.... I think we may be back!!!!!
